SANTA MELODICA (SINKING HARMONIES)

29.08.26 –– Donaukanal, near Strandbar Herrmann, 4:30 - 5:15 pm

Andreas Trobollowitsch is an Austrian interdisciplinary composer and sound artist. His practice moves between conceptual composition, performance, and sound and drawing installations.

Working with prepared and self-developed instruments, everyday objects, plants, and kinetic systems, he explores vibration, rotation, feedback, and the relationship between sound, material, movement, space, and architecture. His recent works focus on site-specific compositions and immersive sound installations.

He has received the Austrian State Scholarship for Composition and was selected as a SHAPE Artist in 2017. His works have been presented at venues and festivals including Wiener Konzerthaus, Serralves Porto, STUK Leuven, The Renaissance Society Chicago, Harvestworks New York, Festival Novas Frequências Rio de Janeiro, Instituto Moreira Salles São Paulo, and Super Deluxe Tokyo.

For 𝑆𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑎 𝑀𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑎 (𝑆𝑖𝑛𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑒𝑠), Andreas Trobollowitsch transforms the Donaukanal into a drifting sound space. Around twenty floating melodicas are connected to forty pre-inflated large balloons, which serve both as air reservoirs and flotation devices. As the air slowly escapes from the balloons, it passes through the fixed keys, producing a drifting harmony that flows downstream with the current. As the balloons gradually deflate, the melodicas slowly sink and eventually fall silent.
